Comments on Suggested Resources Blog

I looked under the Little Green Footballs weblog and came across commentary about how Newt Gingrich is funding a hate group focused at homosexuals.  The name of this so-called hate group is the American Family Association.  This is somewhat funny to me; personally thinking of a much harsher, and much more provocative group name when it comes to being placed under the category of hate group.  Apparently, the Southern Poverty Law Center placed this association under a hate group due to the fact that they regularly use false propaganda to demonize homosexuals.  This is a very extreme far right association who's views I do not advocate, even though I label myself a conservative.  The extremeties of this group are seen in the views of one of its directors; Mr. Bryan Fischer.  He has proposed criminalizing gay behavior, advocated forcing gays into "reparative" therapy, and has made numerous claims as to why gays are responsible for the Holocaust.  Mr. Newt Gingrich has been responsible for the raising of $125,000 to support throwing out 3 Iowa Supreme Court justices who voted to legalize same-sex marriage.  The campaign againgst these 3 justices turned out to be successful as they were ousted from their positions in the Supreme Court.  The article goes on to say that forcing the 3 justices out of the Supreme Court would not have happened if it not were for Mr. Gingrich.  Charles Johnson is the author of this article.  He obviously opposses the views of Mr. Gingrich and the American Family Association, as I can imagine many including myself do.  He even goes as far as to say that the work of Newt Gingrich is "disgusting".  I tend to agree with him on a few accounts.  I myself am not a supporter of same-sex marriage, but I cannot even imagine the hate that someone has to feel in order for them to, in this case, "kick someone out of the Supreme Court".  Also, to raise such a great amount of money to fire someone from their job is something I just don't understand and can't comprehend.  We as American's have a right to vote and to have an opinion, and of course on many different situations we are going to disagree.  That doesn't mean that we are going to do something bad or hurtful just because someone has another opinion.  It is our job as citizens to be respectful and open to other people's opinions and beliefs, not to discount them and hurt them.

Commentary on a New York Post editorial

I stumbled across an editorial in the New York post, http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/editorials/first_amendment_flameout_3lLZOqIUY2WW02oNhlYzyO, that talks about how an anti-abortion billboard was taken down in the streets on New York City as two mayoral candidates strongly opposed the message.   The ad showed a picture of a young black girl and read, "The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb".  I personally am a big fan of being straight up and up front, and I absolutely hate "beating around the bush" so to speak.  So, as you can imagine I enjoyed the somewhat harsh, and direct message that this billboard was displaying.  This billboard was based entirely on factual evidence.  Sometimes the trush is hurtful, but it needs to be heard in order for the American people to progress and prosper in this life.    The facts are that African-Americans make up 13 percent of the US population, but account for more than 30 percent of all abortions.  In New York City where the billboard was posted, the factual numbers are even more surprising.  The numbers show that in New York City, 60 percent of black pregnancies end in abortion, 3 abortions per 2 live births.  To be quite frank, this startling percentage disgusts me, to think that we can decide who lives or not, a power which should be strictly and totally given to God.  As you can tell, I'm strongly anti-abortion and an advocate of free speech, and so is the writer of this editorial.  The writer continually questions Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.  Some of the questions include, "is New York City's 41% abortion rate not high enough for Ms. Quinn"?, "was the billboard's message so subversive that it had to be burned, along with the First Ammendment of free speech".  I believe that taking down the sign was politically wrong given the fact that the Constitution gives the American people the right to free speech.  The abortion percentages for the US and New York City are totally unacceptable and it is our duty as citizens to make these facts well known to the population, in order for us to fix these problems and create a healthier society.  I yearn for a government that one day would have a stronger basis in moral values and which lives in agreement with God.  Sadly, I believe that the total opposite will happen as the years progress, and these startling abortion percentages will continue to increase.  The number one thing we can do is tell everyone of these facts, but if that is taken away from us then our unalienable rights are slowly, but surely diminishing.

New U.S. Missle Defenses in Europe

There is an article in FoxNews.com; http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/03/01/launches-new-missile-defense-program-europe/, which is very interesting and very relieving.  It talks about how the U.S. is putting defense warships in the Mediterranean Sea to protect our allies in Europe.  This brings comfort to me as I have served in the military and I realize first-hand the great lengths that this country goes to, to protect not only ourselves, but also the countries that fight with us, who serve for the good of the world.  This is apparently step one of the Obama-administration's four-phase plan to put warship's in several European location's over the next decade.  The strongest nuclear threat comes from Iran, with the U.S. recently coming to terms and realizing that Iran is very capable and very equipped with ballistic missles and other nuclear devices.  Not, only is Iran a threat, but there is China and North Korea as well just to mention a few others that are very nuclear capable.  I believe that it is in our best interest as a nation to take hold of these safety countermeasures, and I'm happy that they are being carried out in the next few years.  The quote, "it is better to be safe than sorry" comes to mind when reading this article.  Also, while reading this I feel a sense of pride and more than anything, reassurance that our country is taking the right steps in representing the government and its people.  As far as the world safety situation is concerned, I'm very pleased that the Obama administration carried this out and somewhat reconfigured the Bush admininstration plan of doing this a few years earlier.

About Me

I have never been one to step very far into the political side of life.  I grew up in a lower, middle class family in which no one really conducted discussions about what was going on in the government at that point in time.  Both my parents are conservative republicans and I too follow in their footsteps, as I also find myself in favor of this party.  My parents would extensively research and vote in all the major elections and I guess they felt as if it was their duty to do so.  This was as far as they had gone when it came to divulging themselves into politics and government.  No political meetings, no political parades, and no family discussions about government.  I find myself in a very similar position.  It's very hard for me to find time for anything else besides school and work.  I do place importance in becoming socially involved in the political scheme of life, but it's very hard to find the time.  I have voted in all the major elections since I became age eligible and it seems that is all I have time to participate in.  Also, having served for 4 years in the Navy Reserve, I feel I have contributed to the needs and wants of the American government.  I enjoyed my time in the Reserve.  I took a stand for the country I love, helping in any way that I could.
