New U.S. Missle Defenses in Europe
There is an article in FoxNews.com; http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/03/01/launches-new-missile-defense-program-europe/, which is very interesting and very relieving. It talks about how the U.S. is putting defense warships in the Mediterranean Sea to protect our allies in Europe. This brings comfort to me as I have served in the military and I realize first-hand the great lengths that this country goes to, to protect not only ourselves, but also the countries that fight with us, who serve for the good of the world. This is apparently step one of the Obama-administration's four-phase plan to put warship's in several European location's over the next decade. The strongest nuclear threat comes from Iran, with the U.S. recently coming to terms and realizing that Iran is very capable and very equipped with ballistic missles and other nuclear devices. Not, only is Iran a threat, but there is China and North Korea as well just to mention a few others that are very nuclear capable. I believe that it is in our best interest as a nation to take hold of these safety countermeasures, and I'm happy that they are being carried out in the next few years. The quote, "it is better to be safe than sorry" comes to mind when reading this article. Also, while reading this I feel a sense of pride and more than anything, reassurance that our country is taking the right steps in representing the government and its people. As far as the world safety situation is concerned, I'm very pleased that the Obama administration carried this out and somewhat reconfigured the Bush admininstration plan of doing this a few years earlier.
